Interior painting with the prep that makes it last.

Good paint work is mostly preparation: filling nail holes and dings, sanding, caulking trim gaps and protecting floors before the first coat goes on. Then come clean cut lines where walls meet ceilings and trim. We paint single rooms, whole floors, and rooms at the end of a remodel.

Planning

Things to decide early.

Choose sheen by room
Flatter finishes hide wall imperfections; satin or semi-gloss is easier to wipe in kitchens, baths and on trim.
Paint before new floors
If you're also replacing flooring, painting first avoids drips on the new floor.
Sample colors on the wall
Colors look different in your own light. Try samples on two walls before deciding.
